The Cat Who Stole the Moon
Share
Every night, a curious black-and-white cat named Pepper climbed onto the roof of an old apartment building. From there, she watched the moon floating above the city.

Pepper believed the moon was a giant silver ball made especially for cats. She often stretched out her paws, dreaming of pulling it down and carrying it home.
One evening, Pepper noticed something strange. The moon had disappeared.
She searched behind the chimneys, beneath the laundry lines, and inside every open window. She even questioned a sleepy pigeon, but nobody knew where it had gone.
Then Pepper spotted a silver glow moving across the rooftop.
She chased it over flowerpots, beneath a wooden bench, and straight into a bucket filled with rainwater. Looking inside, Pepper finally found the moon shining at the bottom.
“I found you!” she purred.
Pepper carefully pushed the bucket across the roof and brought it to her favorite sleeping place. She curled up beside it, proud that she had rescued the moon.
The next morning, the building’s caretaker found Pepper asleep beside the bucket. He gently poured out the rainwater, and the silver moon vanished.
Pepper woke up and searched everywhere—but the moon was gone again.
That evening, she returned to the roof. As the sky grew dark, the moon slowly appeared above the city.
Pepper looked at it, then at the empty bucket.
She finally understood: the moon had never been trapped. It had simply visited her through its reflection.
From that night on, Pepper stopped trying to keep the moon for herself. Instead, she sat quietly beneath its light, knowing that some beautiful things do not need to belong to us to make us happy.
A Little Reminder from Pepper
Happiness is not always something we can hold. Sometimes, it is a quiet moment, a beautiful view, or the comforting company of a pet beside us.
